Sheila Clark Nelson, an Augusta Democrat, represents House District 130 in Richmond County. A Lucy C. Laney High School graduate, she worked more than 34 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Augusta — rising from part-time clerk to postmaster and customer-service supervisor — before retiring in 2013, and represented House District 125 from 2017 to 2023. She returned to the House by winning an April 7, 2026 special-election runoff with 70.7% over Republican Thomas McAdams, after Rep. Lynn Heffner resigned over a residency problem caused by Hurricane Helene damage, and was sworn in April 15. She is a mother of three and grandmother of five. She is the Democratic nominee this November against Republican David Carson.
