Karla Daniels Hooper came to Georgia in 1992 as a student at Emory University and has lived in Covington for 22 years. She has worked as a grant writer and as executive director of the Diabetes Association of Atlanta. She ran for this seat in 2024 and lost the primary to Henderson. Announcing in 2026, she cited her father, Carl Ellis Daniels, who marched in Selma in 1965. She won the May primary over former Newton County Commissioner Alana Sanders with about 54%.
