He holds master's degrees from Southern Methodist University and Brown University and a PhD in economic history from Cambridge, and serves on the boards of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, Feeding the Valley and United Way of Southwest Georgia. Endorsed by Sen. Sims, he won the three-way May Democratic primary with 54%.
