Michelle Au
Democratic incumbent · anesthesiologistDr. Michelle Au was born in New York City to Chinese American immigrant physicians. She studied at Wellesley College and earned her medical degree and a master's in public health from Columbia University, and works as an anesthesiologist; her 2011 memoir, “This Won't Hurt a Bit (and Other White Lies),” is about medical training. She won state Senate District 48 in 2020, defeating Republican Matt Reeves — now the House District 99 incumbent — 56.2% to 43.8%, then moved to the House after redistricting and won District 50 in 2022 (54%) and 2024 (about 55%). She has become one of the Democratic caucus's most prominent voices on gun-violence prevention and public health. She has three children.
